Data analysis and coordinate graphs

Mean, then the first coordinate plane — Quadrant I only. Students use mean = sum ÷ n and sum = mean × n, plot (x, y) in Quadrant I, and graph a simple linear pattern from a table.

Part no. is the node's id; the realm is the kind of math; qty is how many practice items it carries.

Students can

mean=sumn\text{mean} = \frac{\text{sum}}{n}, and sum=mean×n\text{sum} = \text{mean}\times n; plot (x,y)(x,y) in Quadrant I; graph a simple linear pattern.

Ready when

they can plot (0,2),(1,5),(2,8)(0,2), (1,5), (2,8) and say the rule in words and as an expression.

Formulas

Sum from mean
sum=mean×n\text{sum} = \text{mean} \times n

Watch for

origin as (1,1)(1,1); swapping coordinates when the axis labels are “time” and “distance.”
